2.11 describe experiments to investigate how enzyme activity can be affected by changes in temperature.

  • Put starch into a test tube; either heat or cool it.
  • Add amylase
  • With this mixture on white tiles, add iodine
  • Time how long it takes for the iodine to stop being blue black
  • Repeat at different temperatures and compare
When the iodine stops being blue/black there is no starch present, so it must have been digested by the enzymes.

    1. Yes, because amylase breaks down starch into the sugar maltose, which is a simple sugar.

  5. It will start off as blue/black as there is starch in the solution however you will know when there is no more starch as the iodine in the solution will turn a red/brown colour

  10. Is it fine if I wrote
Enzyme catalase ,which breaks hydrogen peroxide into water and hydrogen
Catalase in found in potatoes , therefore putting potato chips into preoxide will produce O2 .the rate of reaction is therefore proportional to the volume of 02 given off. The changing in temperature will alter the volume
