Stems experience positive photo-tropism, this means they always grow towards light.
In a place where light shines there will be fewer auxins (growth hormones) this encourages the stem to bend towards the source of light.
The plant wants less on that side as of the side which isn't receiving as much light grows faster it then causes the stem to bend (think of it like a corner on a race-track the inside of the corner is a shorter length than the outside of the corner meaning you get a bend)
surely if the plant would want more growth hormones
